Harassment PolicyThe BIDA Safety Team strives to create and maintain a community environment in which people are treated with dignity, decency and respect. The environment of dances organized by the Boston Intergenerational Dance Advocates should be characterized by mutual trust and the absence of intimidation, oppression and exploitation. Community members should be able to dance and socialize in a safe and supportive atmosphere. BIDA safety team will not tolerate harassment of any kind at BIDA events or on BIDA social media pages. Through enforcement of this policy, Safety Team will seek to prevent and correct behavior that violates this policy.
BIDA Safety Team policy prohibits harassment, and the Safety Team will take appropriate and immediate action in response to complaints or knowledge of violations of this policy. For purposes of this policy, harassment is the act of systematic and/or continued unwanted and annoying actions of one party or a group, including threats and demands. This can be verbal, physical, or sexual in nature, and directed toward dancers, volunteers, board members, or any person or performer working for or on behalf of the Boston Intergenerational Dance Advocates. Aggressive behavior that, in the opinion of the targeted individual, impairs their ability to safely engage with the BIDA community is included in the definition of harassment.
The following examples of harassment are intended to be guidelines and are not exclusive when determining whether there has been a violation of this policy:
Verbal harassment includes comments that are offensive or unwelcome regarding a person's nationality, origin, race, color, religion, gender, gender presentation, sexual orientation, age, body, disability or appearance, including epithets, slurs and negative stereotyping; threats of violence; aggressive or combative interactions;
Nonverbal harassment includes distribution, display or discussion of any written or graphic material that ridicules, denigrates, insults, belittles or shows hostility, aversion or disrespect toward an individual or group because of national origin, race, color, religion, age, gender, gender presentation, sexual orientation, pregnancy, appearance, disability, sexual identity, marital or other protected status.
Sexual harassment includes unsolicited and unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature.
All community members who participate in BIDA events, regardless of their position, are covered by and are expected to comply with this policy. Safety Team will take appropriate action according to Safety Team policies to deal with any community member who violates this policy. When evaluating harassment issues, Safety Team will also take into consideration the subject's behavior in non-BIDA spaces. Based on the seriousness of the offense, action may include but is not limited to communication with the subject of the complaint, temporary suspension from BIDA events, or permanent removal from BIDA events.
